Mr Kipling jam and custard slices

Now as far I'm aware these might actually be new! Which is exciting for me! As I was wondering around asda I decided I should probably buy something which I could later review, and these caught my eye, being a lovely £1 in price and mentioning the word custard!

I must admit, I haven't actually eaten any Mr Kipling products as my mum always just avoided them but now I have a shot!

The packet came with 3 individual packets containing two cakes each, which I find a little odd as they're serving size is just one cake... Not that that stopped me devouring the second one almost immediately!

The description for these cakes is: Pastry base layered with plum and raspberry jam, custard flavour sponge and decorated custard flavour icing. Well, if that doesn't sound impressive, I don't know what does! I mean custard flavour cake and icing?! Why hasn't this been done before?!

Upon opening these, I was met with a fairly sweet vanilla smell and the cakes themselves looked great, with their even bright red lines, layered on top of a thick yellow icing, they looked just as promised on the box!

Now the taste... they were great! The icing was really smooth and creamy and I could pick up a definite custardy flavour and the sponge was lovely and soft, the only problem I had was I couldn't detect much of a pastry or jam flavour, there was definitely the texture, but none of the flavours which i did find a bit disappointing really. Overall though these cakes made for a nice little snack and I would recommend them to anyone who loves custard!
